Day 3 –
“If you’re lonely when you’re alone, you’re in bad company.” – Jean Paul Sartre
This is definitely the shortest quote of the three that I have posted and yet it speaks the most about life and the decisions we make for our own happiness.
Throughout my twenties I struggled a lot with a severe anxiety disorder, panic attacks and depression and it is absolutely still a part of me. It took a lot of work to find comfort in myself and to appreciate where I am in life.
This is a simple message to look inside yourself. If you need validation and attention from other people, if you cannot enjoy being single or at least understand that it is important for your mental health, and if you cannot spend time alone with your own thoughts without becoming negative, condescending or dangerous something needs to change.
In no way am I saying that now I have reached my thirties I love myself fully, that I am not negative or condescending about my body and I love being alone (hell, I’m married now!). But I realize that I am much more fun to be around because I am able to ignore those insecurities and open myself up to all that gets in my way.
Enjoy your alone time. Do something that intimidates you: stay single for a year, travel alone, or even just eat at a restaurant alone. It’s a great time to get to know yourself.
